My Heroes, Reignited for 2024
I was reading a wonderful post by Daniel Mezick the other day. While I found the post spot-on and compelling, the comment thread was the highlight. It made me reflect on Dan's influence on my agile journey.
In 2017, I began sharing posts about some of my heroes in the agile space. This was mainly because I felt that we were all standing on the shoulders of giants who received insufficient acknowledgment for their contributions to us.
Over time, I’ve gotten lazy and acknowledged far fewer than I intended. This post is designed to pull my heroes forward onto Substack and reignite my focus on heroes.
Look for more hero posts coming from the Moose soon!
Previously Acknowledged Heroes
David Hussman (I miss you!)

Wrapping Up
I appreciate Dan’s post reminding me to revisit my reflection on Heroes.
But one of the last comments I saw in the posts’ stream was this—
Al Shalloway Yes, Al, Scrum is deficient in 87 ways, Jeff and Ken are bad/wrong/evil, Scrum is not immutable, Scrum was late to the Lean party, etc.
I do not agree with those who point to Scrum as described in Scrum Guide as 'a' problem or 'the' problem.
We have much bigger fish to fry.
And I want to echo Dan’s last words. My heroes always inspire me, and YES…
We have much bigger fish to fry.
And we need more shoulders to stand on…
Look for more of My Heroes posts in the coming months.
Stay agile, my friends,
Bob.
