What would Bob do?
Or, What would the Moose do?
Over the decades that I’ve been practicing and coaching in agile and leadership spaces, many people have told me that I often appear as a little voice in their heads when they’re facing a challenge.
The voice begins with—What would Bob do or say, and the conversation follows from there.
Now, when I hear this, I have a mix of thoughts—
Well, that’s scary. Walking around with MY voice in their heads.
I hope you’re not listening to me.
Please don’t tell me this, I don’t think I want the responsibility.
Any other voices in there?
But a thought I frequently try to foster is—
How wonderful it is that I have the privilege and responsibility of serving as a role model to others. This makes me appreciate both myself and them. It also makes me take my responsibilities as a thought leader and influencer incredibly seriously. I humbly try to walk my talk and leave a thoughtful and positive legacy behind.
Now there’s a thought…
